AYAKO ROKKAKU
This cotton beach towel features Rokkaku's painting UNTITLED (2021), which depicts a floating dreamscape of colourful clouds. At a closer look, wide-eyed girls and other fantastical manga-style creatures appear in the cloud formations. Rokkaku creates her paintings in an intuitive, performative act in which she applies the acrylic paint with her bare hands, transferring the movement of her body onto the canvas. The artist's visual language oscillates between abstraction and figuration and is informed by the aesthetics of kawaii culture, as rich and limitless as a child's vivid imagination. © König Galerie

Ayako Rokkaku has had solo exhibitions at international institutions including Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art, Japan (2020); Museum Jan van der Togt, Amstelveen, The Netherlands (2019); Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum, Bratislava, Slovakia (2012); and Kunsthal, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (2011). In 2015, she showed her work at the Swatch Art Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale. Works by the artist are part of the collections of Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum, Voorlinden Museum, Gunma Museum of Art, Sehwa Museum of Art/Sehwa Art and Culture Foundation, and Museum of Contemporary Art, Karuiuzawa.

六角彩子Ayako Rokkaku (1982) 在藝術拍賣市場，被不少人認為是「下一位奈良美智」，可見得她受歡迎的程度，目前爭取她全球經紀的畫廊，以積極推介眼鏡蛇畫派藝術家Karel Appel、丁雄泉及法國女性藝術家Niki de Saint Phalle極具眼光和口碑，等於間接為六角彩子的繪畫潛能背書，看出了這位年輕藝術家的才華。六角彩子沒有受過任何藝術訓練，而是獨立發展出自己特有的繪畫方法。她從二十歲左右開始創作， 喜愛徒手將丙烯酸顏料直接塗到畫布或紙板上。自學成才的她在繪畫技巧上自成一派。2004年獲 得由村上隆籌辦、旨在鼓勵藝術新人創作的Geisai 藝術節Scout Prize獎後，其後於第9屆Geisai 藝 術節上獲得Akio Goto Prize大獎，成為日本當代藝術指標性舞台上炙手可熱的年輕藝術家，之後更在日本、阿姆斯特丹、柏林之間旅行並創作，發展出她獨特的創作觀以及世界。
除了畫布，六角喜愛於不規則的物質上憑感覺作畫，如羊毛和紙板裝置，每次創作腦子裡既沒有預先設想的計劃，也不需要使用鉛筆勾勒線條，即興創作且下筆敏捷俐落，通過 慢慢摸索色彩直至完成作品。而在她作品中充滿了夢幻般的彩色風景、花卉、動物和頭骨，也反覆出 現一個長著大眼睛、常胳膊和長腿的日本漫畫風女孩。對六角來說，畫小女孩是一種樂趣，也是她 在繪畫中表達個性的一種方式。
